Woman freed on bail within 24 hours after overthrowing 8 workers | Guwahati News

GUWAHATI: 29-year-old wedding planner and former model released on bail within 24 hours of her arrest for allegedly hitting eight disabled workers with her high-speed car while driving “intoxicated” in Guwahati on Saturday. Questions have been raised about the role of the police after they managed to get bail so quickly.
Meanwhile, the workers are currently undergoing treatment at the GMCH and the condition of one of the victims is declared critical.
Femina Miss India 2016 finalist and Beltola Survey resident Rajkanya Baruah was driving her car while the nighttime curfew was in effect, traffic police said on Saturday. However, she dismissed the allegations through a series of Instagram posts on Sunday and said no cases had been recorded “for hit-and-run” or “drunk driving” against her.
A senior police officer from Dispur Police Station told TOI, “We took the woman to a local court, which released her on bail. A case under Article 279/338/294/353 of the ICC has been registered in this regard. We have added section based on FIR details. We cannot comment on the court order.
When asked why she had not been convicted under section 185 of the Motor Vehicle Act for “drunk driving”, as well as for violating the Covid-19 protocol under Provisions of the Disaster Management Act and Section 188 of the Indian Penal Code, the police blamed the “” loopholes “in the FIR, which was filed by the traffic police.
However, traffic police chief Robin Phukan said: “At first glance, she was drunk. Let’s wait for the rest of the result.
