Meghan Markle’s relationship with her father, Thomas Markle Sr., made headlines ahead of her marriage to Prince Harry.
In 2018, photos were released of Thomas preparing for his daughter’s big day. But the public later learned that these images had been staged. It was also thought that Meghan’s father would walk her down the aisle. However, shortly before the wedding, it was announced that Prince Charles would do it instead, as Thomas was not going to attend the event. After all of this, Thomas continued to speak to the media about Meghan and Harry and it got to the point where their relationship seemed beyond repair. Now Meghan’s father is hoping to reunite with his daughter at Queen Elizabeth’s Platinum Jubilee celebrations. But will her mere presence keep the Duchess of Sussex at home across the pond?
Thomas announced he would be in England for Queen Elizabeth’s Platinum Jubilee celebrations
On April 25, UK News host Dan Wotten tweeted that Thomas was going to be a guest on his show and would make a “shocking announcement”. The announcement was that he was traveling to the UK to attend the Monarch’s Platinum Jubilee celebrations and hopes that during his stay he will be able to meet the Queen and Prince Charles, as well as see Prince Harry in person for the first times and meet his grandchildren.
The problem with Thomas’ plan is that it was never confirmed that Meghan or Harry would even attend the festivities in June.
The Duke and Duchess of Sussex recently visited Queen Elizabeth II on their way to the Invictus Games in the Netherlands, but their spokesperson did not reveal when they could return to England.
Does Thomas Markle go to Queen’s Platinum Jubilee mean Meghan won’t?
Meghan and her father do not have a relationship today. They haven’t seen each other for years and Thomas has never met Archie and Lilibet. Harry’s wife spoke publicly about their fallout when she met Oprah Winfrey in 2021. The former talk show host asked Meghan when she confronted Thomas over the staged paparazzi photos.
“If we’re going to use the word betrayal it’s because when I asked him, when the communications team told us the story was coming out, we called my dad and I asked him and he said: ‘No, absolutely not,'” the Duchess told Oprah. “I said, ‘The institution has never stepped in for anything for us, but they can try to come in and kill this But if they do it once, we won’t be able to use the same leverage to protect our own children one day.
Meghan continued: “I said ‘I just need you to tell me and if you tell me the truth we can help you’ and he couldn’t. And that, for me, really resonated, especially now as a mother.
We know that Thomas won’t just be able to bypass security and get close to all the royals when he arrives in London. And given the state of affairs today with Meghan, it is highly unlikely that she will consider reuniting voluntarily with her father on his terms in a way that he is trying to force just because he will be in England. In fact, if she and Harry were planning to go to the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee with their children, it might actually put them off because safety is already a concern for them and it could certainly create more of a circus.
Only time will tell. But if Meghan goes, it won’t be because of her father and if she doesn’t, it might be.
