‘Troukoors’ replaces ‘The Wife’ as production halts

Starting May 5, The Wife on Showmax will no longer top social media trending lists as the show takes a break from production ahead of its third (and possibly final) season.

Wife will pause production after the May 5, 2022 finale and will not return until late 2022,” Showmax said in a statement.

On the same day, the second season of Troukoors (Wedding fever) will begin.

According to the streaming service, the show became the most-watched Afrikaans fictional series on Showmax when it launched in mid-December 2021.

The hit romantic comedy follows three best friends, wedding planner Jessica (Ilse-Lee van Niekerk); his sister Luca (Blyde Smit), a software developer; and her best friend Abi (Bianca Flanders), a professional baker.

The women’s final

The last episodes of season 2 of Wife will complete the recent scenario which was centered on the love story between Zandile (Khanyi Mbau) and Nkosana (Mondli Makhoba).

Although the first three books in the Hlomu series – which the series is inspired by – became bestsellers, the series was a bit of a dud.

Wife rose through the ranks of Showmax’s ratings in such a short time when it started, both fans of the book series and viewers curious to know what the hype was all about clamoring to watch the show.

It was quickly criticized for not staying true to the storyline that lovers of the book series had fallen in love with while others found flaws in the overall storytelling of the series.

Despite these criticisms, viewers remained loyal to watch the show.
