Tourist takes photo of proposal by the beach, finds couple via Twitter

SACRAMENTO, Calif. (KMAX / KOVR) – A viral photo seen on social media shows a proposal against the stunning backdrop of the Pacific Ocean.

The photo appears to come from a wedding magazine and the couple look like models. But the reality is very different.

“I just remember him saying, you know, ‘I love you so much and I want to spend the rest of my life with you,'” bride-to-be Jazmine Winn said Thursday.

Winn says she’s still in the clouds nine days after her fiance Ricky Johnson Jr. asked the question.

He had been preparing the proposal for a month.

“I’m like, ‘This is the place!'” Said Johnson.

Texas photographer Valerie Contreras was visiting the historic Sutro Baths outside of San Francisco with friends on Saturday. She looked up and noticed the moment.

“That’s when I kind of connected the dots,” she said. “I was like, ‘Oh my God, he’s going to propose.’ So and where we were, we just started filming, just started taking pictures.

Contreras says she didn’t want to spoil the moment but still wanted the happy couple to have the beautiful photos, so she took to Twitter. She posted the photos online and told Twitter to do its magic.

Within hours, the couple got the message.

“And I got a text from my friend… He said, ‘Hey, Twitter is looking for you,’” Winn said.

Almost 700,000 likes later, the cross-country connection has been made. The couple are forever grateful to Contreras and social media for making this possible.

“We want our children to be able to see and know our history,” Winn said.

The happy couple have set a wedding date for January 2022.
