The story of eugeni quitllet with pedrali carries the past in the future blending in

“It was like a love story; it was the right place and the right time to start dreaming and creating magic ”, described Eugeni Quitllet on the story of two chairs, Pedrali and the balance of indoor and outdoor furniture for designboom. the collaboration started with a great harmony between the leaders of the italian brand, giuseppe and monica pedrali, and the famous designer, giving way to the ‘remember’ and ‘soul’ collections. with the two product families, eugeni mixes the past and the future by erasing the limits of living spaces. in the open air and in integration – a feeling fortified by the pandemic – balconies, terraces and gardens are part of everyday life.

with 100% made in italy products, Pedrali continues to find ways to give new meanings to contemporary and industrial design. the brand’s long history with traditional craftsmanship continues to evolve with advanced technologyy, also visible in the outdoor chairs by eugeni quitllet. ‘for the two chairs we focused on the exterior, the technology and, above all, in tune with the history of pedrali’s craftsmanship, ‘ said the designer.

the romantic and organic lines of “recall” simplify the concept of bringing the past into the future. the designer revisits the traditional monobloc chair with contemporary touches, such as character perforated breathable holes on the seat and backrest. the chair presents itself naturally as an outdoor piece of furniture, evoking strong emotions of nostalgia although in reality new. this is closely related to the name of the product – derived from re-cordis meaning passing from the heart.

‘in Latin, when you remember something, you reveal a kind of emotion; I love this reference for the chair, ‘ explains Eugeni.

Products that have an emotional and romantic aspect to them also have very strong technological support. they are an investment of energy, money and time, so we have to think about a timeless style for longevity. we created that lightweight structure and shape that can withstand sun and rain. these small holes are there to let the water and the air pass, remarks the creator.

from the original to the customizable “pixel” version of the chair, the product is dressed in many meaningful layers. According to eugeni, there is a direct relationship between design and the environment, be it the materials, the energy put into the making or even the emotional connection. effectively, the need to be respectful of the environment is close to the heart of the creator.

“Every industrial project must have an ecological dimension and function is another aspect that must address energy and the environment. making a stackable chair, for example, means more products in the truck, less gasoline for delivery and less space in the new house ”, clarifies eugeni.

pushing this eco-friendliness even further, “reminder” is available in the gray recycled version entirely in recycled plastic. the designer takes up the challenge of creating a product from post-consumer waste and industrial plastic scraps. with its airy appearance, the chair is essentially “An organic synthesis of different materials, analyzes and qualifications”, explains Eugeni. the result is so special to him because it is a physical representation of the effort expended to separate the waste to create another useful object.

“It is the user who must understand the work, what he is buying and at what price. we can try as much as we can, but it is the customer who has to take this extra step to recycle or buy the recycled ”, adds the designer, referring to the two chairs.
