The Arena District’s McFerson Commons Park, commonly referred to as Arch Park for the salvaged stone archway from Old Union Station, is a classic downtown backdrop for wedding portraits. Photographer Bree Ridgeway, from Photograph by Bree Lea, headed there with the model Michaela neu just before Valentine’s Day this year for a low-key bridal shoot.
We discovered this shoot while scrolling Instagram for our Insta-Love series, and liked the shot so much that we saw, we decided to present it as well.
Ridgeway was inspired by large-scale Parisian weddings, but “wanted to do it on a small scale, without the production, to show you can have the same vibe here in Columbus,” she says. Further inspiration came from the Disney movie “Hercules,” Ridgeway adds about laying Neu in an alcove of the stone structure.
Neu wears dress handcrafted by Wisconsin designer Love lives here for the bride, locally sourced from Attelé bridal shop in Upper Arlington. Neu did her own hair and makeup, and Ridgeway created her bouquet using Michael’s faux wheat.
Ultimately, Ridgeway says, the shoot was all about showcasing luxurious style at an affordable price.
“I’ve done a lot of great styled shoots in the past with expensive dresses, hair, makeup, rooms, flowers – all the boot. But at the end of the day, it’s not always accessible to my primary client, ”Ridgeway says. “I have a lot of DIY brides, little backyard brides, so I wanted to limit myself to showing that it’s always possible to get that vibe, to get stylish photos like that, here. [in Columbus] with a small budget.
