MIAMI BEACH, Florida – A new coronavirus The test site that will accept walk-in and drive-through patients opens to the public Friday morning in Miami Beach, although city officials will witness a smooth opening at the site on Thursday.
The city has partnered with the Florida Department of Health and the Florida National Guard to open the test center at the Miami Beach Convention Center.
The facility will offer mobile and walk-in testing services every day from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. No appointment is necessary.
Testing will be free and available to everyone, whether or not they show symptoms of COVID-19.
Children under 18 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.
Miami Beach Mayor Dan Gelber and City Manager Jimmy Morales will attend Thursday’s pre-opening.
“Test surveillance, contact tracing and isolation are essential to the health and well-being of our community,” Gelber said in a statement. “The opening of the testing center offers greater testing capacity allowing individuals to be tested even if they do not have symptoms. We need to see more progress and more slowing down of the virus before we can start implementing more measures to reopen Miami Beach. “
Walk-in testing services will be available at municipal parking lot P-29, located at 17th Street and Convention Center Drive, across from Miami Beach City Hall.
People are asked to enter 17th Street and Convention Center Drive wearing a face covering and with readily available photo identification.
Parking will not be available for patients tested without an appointment.
The drive-through mobile test service entrance is located at 17th Street and Convention Center Drive.
City officials are asking drivers to stay in their cars with the windows open and their photo ID displayed on the dashboard.
Everyone inside each vehicle must wear a face cover, be seated next to a window, and display their photo ID.
There is a maximum of five tests per vehicle.
City officials said the facility would be able to test 400 patients per day, which could change in the future depending on demand.
Home testing is available for seniors confined to home in Miami Beach who have symptoms of COVID-19, including fever, shortness of breath or a persistent cough.
To request a home test, call the city’s customer service center at 305-604-2489. Customer service is open Monday to Friday from 8 a.m. to 6.30 p.m.
