BIRMINGHAM, Alabama (WIAT) – In the age of searching for those perfect Instagram moments, a Leeds woman, her husband and friends turned their 1971 mail cart into just that.
“It was a joke between my girlfriends and I,” said Tiffany Abel-Ward, owner of Magic City Mini Bar. “We wanted a fun way to drink alcohol in my backyard or just have a good time with our friends. “
This joke has since surfaced at one of Birmingham’s most sought-after wedding selling businesses.
Alabama’s Alcoholic Beverage Control, better known as the ABC Board, only allows the Magic City Mini Bar to provide the service, not the alcohol.
“We take the ingredients for your drink, we put them in our car, our taps,” Abel-Ward said. “We provide the ice cream, the cups, the toppings and all the fun details that make the whole picture come together. “
All their drinks are prepared and served in the Bonita mobile minibar.
“We took a 1971 Taylor-Dunn electric postal car that we bought in Hawaii in 2019,” she said. “We tied it up with taps, we gave it a funny name. Bonita means beautiful in Spanish.
Transforming that ’70s Hawaiian mail cart into the modern, wheeled Kodak it is now was no easy task.
“We brought it back to Birmingham and had to do it all over again. All the mechanics redone. It wasn’t really working when we bought it. It was totally rusty. I must have had new tires which were hard to find because they are too old.
An investment of $ 4,000 later, little Miss Bo was ready for business – once the news of the mobile mini bar broke, Abel-Ward, her husband, and her group of “Startenders” had their work cut out. the board.
“I hate to say this because we love events and want to be able to accommodate as many people as possible, but we’ve really re-booked solidly for 2021,” she said. “In fact, we are already booking for 2022 and we have already booked a few months for 2022 as well. “
But Abel-Ward and his Startenders always take reservations… you may need to book a year or more in advance.
