Forum addresses the protection of intangible cultural heritage

The 9th International Forum (Shanghai) on the Protection of Intangible Cultural Heritage was held at the Shanghai Academy of Arts and Design on Thursday.

Along with the ongoing International Traditional Fine Arts Exhibition at the Shanghai Art Collections Museum, the forum and exhibition are key projects of the Shanghai Culture Program, which aims to promote cultural exchanges between Shanghai and its ” sister cities ”involved in the Belt and Road Initiative.

This year’s forum is themed “Tracing Art in the Heart” and features speakers from countries such as China, Japan, Austria, Norway, Argentina, Egypt, Colombia, Turkey, Slovakia and Ukraine who talk about their practices and experiences in the protection of intangible cultural heritage.

According to the organizers, the forum hopes to create a platform to bring together the wisdom of experts and scholars from around the world to discuss the challenges and opportunities facing the protection of intangible cultural heritage.

The topics of the forum ranged from “Last 20 Years of Protection of China’s Intangible Cultural Heritage”, “The Promotional Effect of Legislation on the Protection of Chinese Intangible Cultural Heritage”, “Masters of Diversity – Heritage in Techniques and Handicraft Procedures in Argentina ”to“ Speak ”’: Ancient Egyptian Culture Preserved on Papyrus” and “Protection and Innovation in the Practice of Intangible Cultural Heritage in Colombia”.

Due to the pandemic, some of the speeches were presented by video or in writing.
