Collina Strada chose the rooftop garden of the Brooklyn Grange to return to New York Fashion Week after lockdown to share her Spring / Summer 2022 collection in tribute to Y2K skaters.
It was a show full of energy, with many models walking the catwalk in pairs, laughing, kissing and even snatching carrots from the ground. That fun and optimism was reflected in the collection, which was designed to inspire us to dress again, and was filled with vibrant colors of orange, green, blue and pink.
“It’s a chaotic time. The world is changing and so are you, ”says Collina Strada’s Hillary Taymour in the show’s notes. “You dress for the mess – print over print, layer upon layer.”
Entitled “Snails Pace,” Spring / Summer 2022 was a tribute to year 2000 female skateboarders, while embracing gardening and vegetable growing with floral and scribble prints on cargo pants, vests and dresses.
Sustainability is at the heart of the collection with pieces made from dead, recycled or recycled fabrics, as Taymour seeks to use ethical materials and business practices wherever possible.
Highlights included draped midi skirts recycled from wedding dresses, cargo pants and asymmetrical jumpsuits in bright colors and floral prints, as well as corsets carved with horses and beetles. There was also a denim collaboration with Levi’s with jeans with doodles and stars, sustainable swimwear and recycled jewelry.
