AKRON, Ohio – The Akron City Court is offering “Star Wars” themed weddings on May 4 for local couples who wish to wed at the Highland Square Theater.
The date holds significance for fans of the franchise as it is known internationally as “May the Fourth be With You”, a play on one of the film series’ iconic lines, “May the Force be with you”.
Administrative Judge/Akron Municipal Court President Ron Cable will officiate weddings from 10 a.m. to noon. Star Wars costumes are welcome.
Appointments are offered on a first-come, first-served basis and must be scheduled and paid for prior to the ceremony date. No time slots will be added once all appointments have been made. To ensure an appointment is available, contact Akron Municipal Court Service Chief Usher Patricia Williams at 330-375-2592.
Akron City Court is also hosting weddings at Jilly’s Music Room on April 1, but there are no more time slots available. The court will announce dates and locations for summer weddings in mid-April.
Prior to the May 4 ceremony, couples must obtain a marriage license from Summit County Probate Court. Thereafter, couples will be required to pay a cash-only ceremony fee at the Akron Municipal Court Clerk’s Office in Room 837 of the Harold K. Stubbs Justice Center, 217 S. High St. Ceremony fee is $25 $ for residents of the court’s jurisdiction (Akron, Fairlawn, Bath, Richfield, Springfield Twp., Lakemore and the Summit County portion of Mogadore). The fee is $40 for non-residents. After paying the fee, couples should bring their receipt to room 901 to reserve a ceremony time.
The Highland Theater is located at 826 W. Market St. in Akron. Free parking is available across the street behind Huntington Bank and Chipotle.
